Flint looking for a project management Flintern to join our team during the 2021/2022 school year! As part of the Flint internship program, students will enhance their skillset on their way to becoming a tough, agile, and versatile project manager. This program aims to teach students what it takes to be a successful project manager in the workforce while building proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.

This internship opportunity is made up of both practicum and internship hours. Why both? A practicum helps students develop understanding, while an internship helps them understand how to implement that understanding in the real world. This holistic approach to an internship will yield a candidate at the end of the program that possesses a well-rounded understanding of the project management discipline.

Students who show promise and cultural fit could potentially be offered the opportunity to be hired on full time at Flint. One role that would ideally be filled by students from the program is that of a “floating PM” for the agency. This individual would help various teams as work fluctuates throughout the agency with the goal of being becoming part of a permanent/fixed team when a position opened.

What you’ll do

  • Job shadow project managers at varying levels within the agency.
  • Participate in account and project management team meetings.
  • Assist project managers with complex projects by being a “buddy” PM on projects.
  • Manage basic, quick turn projects from start to finish.
  • Take initiative in all aspects of daily work.

What you’ll gain

Practicum Goals (20% of the program)

  • Understanding of how an advertising agency functions and how different disciplines work together.
  • Gain perspective of the role and responsibilities of a project manager at an advertising agency and what a potential growth plan would look like for someone in this discipline.
  • Comprehension of project workflow and process within an agency.
  • Exposure to project management tools (Workamajig,, Basecamp, Teams, Excel, etc.) in a real-world application.

Internship Goals (80% of program)

  • Able to run a successful kick-off meeting.
  • Proficiency in Flint’s project management tool, Workamajig.
  • Feels comfortable managing basic projects from start to finish.
  • Familiar and confident with working on a variety of different types of projects.

What we need

Applicants must be of junior or senior status and submit a one-page resume and “cover letter” to apply to the program. Instead of a traditional cover letter, we ask you to submit a brief paragraph of intent stating what they would like to gain from the experience and a written description of their project management “toolkit”. The toolkit exercise should include “tools” that the student already has in their arsenal, tools the student would like to gain and/or improve by being part of the program, and how they plan to use the tools in their toolkit in the workforce.
