After smashing our goal last year with $13,000 in United Way campaign fundraising, we knew we’d need a creative approach to hit our 2016 goal. As we looked at our team strengths, we realized a competition was the best option to get people involved – and so, Flint Fights emerged. With over 75 percent daily company participation, we not only surpassed last year’s fundraising numbers but beat our goal of $14,000 by $131!
We kicked off the week with Travis Christopher from United Way who spoke about the nonprofit’s mission and their community impact. And of course, there were pancakes to start the week off right!
We unleashed our competitive spirit by splitting into four Flint teams. A couple of teams even held secret team meetings to strategize on how they were going to take home the bragging rights.
Penny Wars
This week-long event got the competition moving. With pennies counting for double, our jars were overflowing and even local banks began to root for their favorite teams as they traded in their change for pennies during the competition. On the final day of the campaign, we raised over $700 in just the penny wars!
We transformed the lobby into a Flint Market for a day where members of each team brought tasty items to sell. We had everything from jerky to apple pie to homemade jam.
This was one of the best lunch hours to date! The rule: you could submit any dish you wanted – as long as it was served in a slow cooker! A $5 donation allowed you to sample each dish and vote for your favorite.
Flintsters purchased raffle tickets like crazy for the chance to win items including What-the-Flint Days (extra day of PTO), hand-drawn Illustrations from our art director and front-row parking spots.
Flintsters also volunteered for the United Way of Cass-Clay Day of Caring. We spent an afternoon in the community helping seniors and those in need with projects around their homes. We worked hard and made some friends along the way!
To celebrate another successful United Way campaign, we ended the week with a cocktail competition. Five bucks got you a taste of each drink entry and allowed you to vote for the best of the bunch.
When we didn’t think the day could get any better, two of our friends from United Way joined us for the afternoon!
While we had a blast with this campaign, we are even more thrilled to have raised money for a nonprofit that helps improve our amazing community. We are already planning for next year!
