Not only does Lake Agassiz Habitat ReStore fund Habitat for Humanity home builds, they keep thousands of pounds of usable materials out of our landfills in the process.
Every day is Earth Day at ReStore. Here at Flint, we’re glad to help them realize their mission.
What is Lake Agassiz Habitat ReStore?
ReStore is your local home-improvement thrift store offering quality new and gently used building supplies, furniture, appliances and more at low prices. The best part? All proceeds fund homes built for families in need.
ReStore is also a green alternative to disposing used home improvement materials. On average, ReStores across the country keep over one million pounds of usable materials out of local landfills. Talk about celebrating Earth Day!
A fun-filled summer for last year’s Flinterns
Flint Group copywriter and ReStore volunteer LaRissa Hendricks has assisted the organization for seven years, beginning with a referral from a friend in 2012. LaRissa writes marketing materials with the goal of spreading awareness of ReStore’s mission.
“First, I want people to know that ReStore exists,” LaRissa says. “But I want them to understand that it’s a whole cycle. ReStore is a great source of new and used home improvement materials, and ultimately, efforts and proceeds support the great cause of building homes for families in need.”
Thanks to LaRissa, last summer’s Flinterns (myself included!) worked to promote ReStore, specifically through planning an anniversary thank-you event. The party took place in July and was filled with games, snacks and of course, a cake generously donated by Costco.
What can be donated to ReStore?
The ReStore accepts items such as furniture, appliances, doors, plumbing, windows, hardware, flooring, and much more. Check out these infographics designer Jacob Erickstad created as part of last summer’s campaign.
Spring cleaning? Remodeling? Don’t have enough items for a full-fledged garage sale? Call 218-284-5253 to schedule a pickup of furniture, cabinets or appliances. Clean-up week is all year long at ReStore—they’ll haul off your stuff and resell it for a great cause.
Reduce, Reuse, ReStore
Lake Agassiz Habitat ReStore touches so many community members: from low-budget shoppers to Habitat for Humanity home receiving families. It’s a phenomenal, multi-level organization to volunteer for (hint, hint 😉) and give back to.
Whether you are a die-hard DIYer or simply in the market for reduced-cost home goods, ReStore’s got something for you. Connect their Facebook page for updates on inventory, events and more.
Happy Earth Day, from your friends at ReStore and Flint Group.
